• M&M Oil Danny McCormick Testimony to House Ways & Means - 4.25.17

Video testimony from Danny McCormick of M&M Oil during a meeting of the House Ways & Means Committee on Tuesday April 25th, 2017. On this date, Representative Sam Jones, author of HB 628, made the motion to voluntarily defer the Commercial Activity Tax (CAT), and with no objection from the House Ways and Means Committee, the bill is defeated. This action has thrown a major wrench in Governor Edwards’ plan to make business and industry cover the looming $1.4 billion budget deficit. We thank the many members who reached out to share their concerns about the harmful effects the CAT tax would have on our industry. In particular, we would like to thank Mr McCormick for his fiery testimony about the specific effects the CAT tax would have on his small oil and gas company. It remained the talk of the capitol even hours after his testimony was given. Although we were successful today, there are still 45 days left in this fiscal session and many more issues to tackle. Again, we thank you for your constant support, and we will continue to advocate on your behalf. Sincerely, Gifford Briggs Vice President Louisiana Oil and Gas Association
